With South Dakota boasting one of the best business climates in the country, the Wall Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) welcomes companies interested in low taxes, a low cost of doing business, and a lack of red tape to check out its new, centrally located, 85-acre Industrial Park. Wall’s robust, local tax incentives and quick building permitting process further supports those looking to build or expand their business.
“We have a lot to offer those looking to set up shop in our region,” said WEDC executive director Dr. Rochan Burrell. “We’re also proud to say that our Industrial Park carries the distinction of being recognized by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development as the only certified site in the category of Light Industrial.”
Endless Opportunities
Conveniently located on Airport Road, just off of Interstate 90—the main east-west corridor in South Dakota that connects Sioux Falls, the state capital of Pierre, and Rapid City—the Industrial Park is shovel-ready for construction on any of its 17 remaining lots that vary in size from 1.9 to 10 acres. The first lot was sold to locally owned Rayco Development, with plans to construct condominiums available for sale or lease.
“We’re specifically targeting the industries of manufacturing and production, precision agriculture, bio-science, and wholesale/distribution businesses,” said Burrell. “And our local and state incentives are unmatched.”
WEDC’s rich offering of various programs, grants, loans and valuable business resources combined with South Dakota’s low cost of living and business-friendly environment that boasts no corporate tax, personal income tax, or business inventory tax will appeal to entrepreneurs and business owners who are looking to start or re-locate their business to a family-friendly community with endless opportunities.
Best of Both Worlds
Tucked into the southwest corner of the state, Wall embodies a small-town feel that’s still conveniently located 114 miles from the state capital of Pierre, four hours from Sioux Falls, and less than an hour from Rapid City, which has seen steady growth since 2020 and a population topping 82,000 residents, an increase of 2.24% from 2023. To accommodate the boom, the Rapid City Regional Airport recently broke ground on an extensive, multi-phase expansion project that will include adding five additional gates to better handle the influx of travelers and worldwide visitors to popular points of interest such as Mount Rushmore, the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the abundance of hunting, hiking, trail riding, and water recreational activities within the 1.2 million acres of the Black Hills National Forest and 244,000 acres of the Badlands National Park.
Wall also boasts a municipal airport, with its newly expanded, 4,418-foot paved runway that was widened from sixty feet to seventy-five feet. Tracks operated by the Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern Railroad, which services the Dakota Mill & Grain elevator, are located in the heart of the town.
“You truly get the best of both worlds by operating your business in Wall,” said Burrell. “It’s the small town and tight-knit community you’ve been dreaming about without having to sacrifice easy access to the amenities and arts offered by our metropolitan areas.”
