Highlighting Women-Owned Businesses in Wall this Women’s History Month

Wall Economic Development Corporation is celebrating women-owned businesses in Wall, South Dakota this March for Women’s History Month! March offers a time to shine a light on noteworthy accomplishments of women in Wall and across the U.S.

The monthly celebration of women’s achievements throughout American history dates back to the 1980s. In 1987, the National Women’s History Project petitioned for Congress to pass Pub. L. 100-9 pronouncing March of 1987 “Women’s History Month.” Over the next several years, Congress requested the President publicly recognize Women’s History Month as an annual observance every March. Presidents have continued to issue proclamations each year naming March as Women’s History Month since 1995.

Women have a large role in Wall’s workforce. Overall, women-owned businesses have a significantly positive impact on the U.S. economy. From 2014 to 2018, U.S. women-owned businesses experienced a higher revenue growth rate at 20.1 percent than men-owned businesses at 14.4 percent. In 2019, U.S. women-owned businesses with employees provided jobs for 10.8 million workers.
