News
The Wall Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is celebrating local entrepreneurs and their accomplishments this November for National Entrepreneurship Month! From the world-famous and family owned, 76,000 sq. ft. Wall Drug to the 85-acre Wall Industrial Park, Wall, South Dakota is home to an ever-innovative group of entrepreneurs who are dedicated to the creation of new products and services that bring new life to our economy.
What is National Entrepreneurship Month?
National Entrepreneurship Month takes place in November and National Entrepreneurs' Day is observed every third Tuesday of November, occurring this year on the 19th. Both offer a time to celebrate the efforts of entrepreneurs in communities across the U.S. that better the economy locally and nationally. Not only do they produce new and improved goods, services, and ideas, but their businesses also help with job creation. The more new companies are launched, the more employment opportunities become available to the public.
"The value that our hard working entrepreneurs bring to Wall goes far beyond economics," says WEDC executive director Dr. Rochan Burrell. "They each embody a tireless spirit of innovation that has become the backbone of our community."

Support Our Local Businesses on Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday takes place each year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, an event created by American Express in 2010 that has been co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) since 2011. Many favorite shopping memories are made when visiting a small business in Wall. There is something special about shopping at a local store where the owners greet you by name, swap stories with you, and ask you how your family is doing. You will undoubtedly experience this type of friendly atmosphere in our amazing community!
Shopping small in Wall has a big impact, both in our local and the U.S. economies. In the last 25 years, small businesses have created over 60 percent of new jobs, just one of the many important reasons to direct holiday spending toward small businesses.
How to Support Wall Businesses
Shopping small can be as easy as grabbing a cup of coffee and a donut from Wall Drug, purchasing your holiday dinners from Wall Meat Processing or checking off your gift list with unique jewelry from Dakota Sky Stone.
All of our small businesses bring character to Wall, generate new jobs, strengthen the economy, and make for unique little adventures with friends and family. Join us in buying in-store and online from local independent retailers on Small Business Saturday, November 30th! You can even go the extra mile and give these independent retailers a satisfactory review online and share your interest on social media.
Giving Tuesday
No better way to wrap up National Entrepreneurial Month than with Giving Tuesday on December 3rd, a day where people throughout our community, and the world, donate to the causes they are passionate about. It encourages us to look beyond the busyness of the holiday season and to consider those in our community who may need our help and support, along with the charities that are standing in the gap to be there for those in need.
By celebrating giving, we are also celebrating the power of our community members to bring about change. Every dollar donated to local charities on Giving Tuesday is money that is staying within our community and working to directly help our friends and neighbors. We encourage you to join others in Wall on December 3rd by making a donation to your favorite charity.
