Reflections on the Year and a Personal Introduction

As the year comes to a close, it’s a natural time to reflect on the journey so far. I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and share my story.
My name is Dr. Rochan Burrell, and I was born in eastern South Dakota, raised in Rapid City, and graduated from Sturgis High School. From there, my journey took me far and wide, both across the U.S. and internationally.
I began my career as an Equity Stage Manager for theater, traveling the country and even spending a year and a half working on a cruise ship. Later, I became a massage therapist, working my way through medical school to earn a doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. During this time, I also completed an externship in China and opened a private practice in Los Angeles, which I successfully ran for 10 years.
It was during this chapter of my life that I met my husband. Together, we transitioned into the trucking industry, where I supported him in running his company as we traveled across the country once again.
About a year ago, we decided to put down permanent roots in Quinn, South Dakota. The warm welcome we received from the community gave us the confidence to leave the trucking business behind and embrace a new venture. We brought our circus-themed trailer from LA and launched Anadah Flavor, serving Jamaican-inspired food. With the support of the community and the generosity of the Hansens, who offered us a spot behind Hansen’s Inn and Cabins in Wall, our new endeavor flourished.
The kindness and support we received inspired me to give back. When the position of Executive Director of the Wall Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) opened, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to contribute to the community that had so warmly embraced us. I stepped into this role in September and have been hard at work ever since, channeling the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained over the years to help Wall grow and thrive.
Starting in this role, I had much to learn about the WEDC’s history and initiatives. I’m deeply impressed by the impactful programs and progress the organization has achieved over the years. My goal is to build upon the solid foundation laid by my predecessors and continue fostering growth and opportunities for the businesses and residents of Wall.
As we look back on 2023, I’m excited to highlight the milestones WEDC has achieved and share our vision for the future. Together, let’s continue to make Wall a vibrant and thriving community!
Warm regards,
Dr. Rochan Burrell
