Get approval for Off-Site Liquor License — Third in Wall

Badlands Bodega, a proud member of the Wall Economic Development Corporation, has been officially approved for an off-site liquor license—making it the third such license issued in the City of Wall.

During a business retention and expansion visit with owner Joe Leach, Wall Economic Development Director Rochan Burrell learned of Joe’s interest in offering liquor sales at his Bodega on Main Street. Recognizing the opportunity, Rochan recalled a recent legislative effort aimed at supporting small communities by expanding access to off-site liquor licenses. She researched the 2025 South Dakota legislative session and confirmed that the bill allowing a third off-sale liquor license for cities under 5,000 residents had been passed and signed into law by the governor.

Armed with this information, Joe submitted his application to the City of Wall. The city published notice of the request and held a public hearing to ensure community input. With no objections received, the City Council voted to formally adopt the third license, which took effect July 1, 2025. Immediately following, Badlands Bodega’s application was approved.

This is a win for local business and a testament to the value of close collaboration between economic development leaders, local entrepreneurs, and city government.
