The Wall Economic Development Corporation team would like to give a shoutout to economic developers across the nation that help spur economic growth. During this year’s Economic Development Week, we would like to emphasize the valuable work that economic development organizations do to strengthen the economy of their specified region.

Every year, the second week of May is dedicated to this celebration of economic developers, so this year we observe Economic Development Week from May 8th through May 12th. The week was introduced in 2016 to recognize the important work of economic developers everywhere. It is a time to raise awareness about what economic development organizations do for our communities and to share our appreciation for their hard work to support local businesses and improve the local economy.

It is also the perfect time for economic developers to share their accomplishments with the world. The International Economic Development Council’s most recent Economic Development Week Toolkit provides some useful tips on promoting your organization. You can begin by including #EconDevWeek in social posts for Economic Development Week.

What Is An Economic Development Organization?

An economic development organization’s overall goal is to boost the economy in a specified region. The organization is a valuable resource to help with starting or expanding a business, to help attract and retain workforce talent, to point residents to local workforce training programs, to create jobs throughout the region, and more.

Economic development organizations regularly promote the area they live in, offer incentives for individuals and businesses to move there, partner with other organizations to strategize potential initiatives that would help local businesses thrive, and so much more. Overall, the efforts of economic developers lead to an enhanced quality of life for residents of the area.

The Wall EDC team does all of the above and more for its community. In 2021, Wall EDC established the first light industrial park to produce available business sites in Wall. The organization members also regularly attend trade shows to showcase the benefits of living in Wall.

One incentive that Wall EDC created to recruit workforce talent is the New Worker Relocation Program which offers a helping hand to individuals moving to Wall to work full-time for local employers. This program provides these individuals with a reimbursement for their moving expenses. An individual’s household can receive up to $1,500 over the course of one year. Their water utility deposit will be waived through the City of Wall and their electricity deposit will be waived through the West River Electric Association.
